Hourly Rate Calculator Australia

How Does the Hourly Rate Calculator Work?

This calculator estimates the hourly rate required to reach an annual income target based on your working hours and number of working weeks. You can also include additional annual business costs.

Hourly Rate = (Annual Income Goal + Business Costs) รท Total Annual Working Hours

Example

Suppose you want to generate $80,000 per year, work 38 hours per week and work for 48 weeks each year.

Your total working hours would be:

38 ร— 48 = 1,824 working hours per year

The calculator then divides your income target and any additional business costs by your estimated annual working hours.

Who Can Use This Calculator?

  • Freelancers
  • Independent contractors
  • Consultants
  • Small-business owners
  • Self-employed workers
  • People comparing salary and hourly work

Important Note

This is a general planning calculator. It does not automatically account for Australian income tax, superannuation, GST, leave, insurance, unpaid administration time or other employment and business costs.

If you are self-employed or contracting, consider your actual business expenses and non-billable hours when setting your rate.
